3 Telltale Signs that your Shoulder Pain is a Serious Condition

3 Telltale Signs that your Shoulder Pain is a Serious Condition

by afarber / Tuesday, 31 October 2017 / Published in Shoulder Surgery

The shoulder joint can withstand a significant amount of impact. This is why if your shoulder hurts, you may not realize the severity of the condition.

Here are a few telltale signs your shoulder pain is due to a serious underlying condition and requires urgent medical attention.

Immobility / Frozen Shoulder

If you experience an inability or great difficulty in moving your shoulder, as if your shoulder is frozen, it could be the sign of a serious shoulder injury, such as a torn rotator cuff.

If your shoulder is in an unusual position, it may indicate a partially separated shoulder or a torn labrum (cartilage) or ligaments that hold the shoulder in position.

Deformity

A large, noticeable deformity at the top of your shoulder region may indicate an Acromio-Clavicular joint (AC joint) injury. It could also be a sign of a fractured clavicle or collar bone, if you landed hard on your shoulder.

Clicking or Popping

If you feel or hear a popping or clicking sound deep in your shoulder when you try to move it, it can be a sign of a torn labrum, especially when accompanied with significant pain.

Don’t wait to have your shoulder injury properly diagnosed. The longer you wait on a serious injury may further reduce your chance at a full recovery. Click here to schedule your next appointment or contact any of our St. Louis area locations.
